Founded in 2018, the Cape Cheetah Conservation Initiative is dedicated to protecting, rehabilitating, and conserving wild cheetahs in the Western Cape, South Africa.
The cheetah, the fastest land animal in the world, is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. With fewer than 7,000 cheetahs worldwide and less than 1,700 living in South Africa, the situation is dire.
Once a stronghold for cheetahs and wildlife, South Africa’s cheetah population has faced a significant decline. Wild cheetahs disappeared from the Western Cape in the 1970s, but through dedicated conservation initiatives and localised breeding programmes, we’ve witnessed the return of wild cheetahs to the region over the last decade.
At the core of our cheetah rescue initiatives lies an unwavering dedication to restore the Western Cape's wild cheetah populations and see them thrive in their natural Karoo habitat once more.
